The U.S. Labor Department reported Wednesday that the producer price index (PPI) rose 0.2 percent month-on-month in March, compared with economists 'expectations for a 0.3 percent increase.

Dollar and Treasury yields fell after the PPI announcement in March, pushing gold prices higher.
